Description

The purpose of this document is to demonstrate that making openings in existing post-tensioned slabs is not only possible but is routinely performed in retrofit projects. The document describes a comprehensive process that can be used to create openings in post-tensioned slab systems constructed with unbonded single-strand tendons. Included is a discussion of the required structural analysis as well as construction methods and procedures used to create openings. An actual project’s case study illustrates the process. Many illustrations provide additional support in understanding of the subject matter.
